Biography

Anastasia Berwald is a PhD in Law candidate at the University of Ottawa Centre for Law, Technology and Society, under the supervision of Dr. Teresa Scassa.

Anastasia Berwald was awarded the SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier PhD Scholarship for her doctoral research. Her research focuses on the role of networks in the proliferation of hate speech and misogyny and their impact on equality.

Anastasia Berwald was previously a legal advisor at the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse du Québec. She also worked as a research consultant for the National Association of Women and the Law and helped develop their Feminist Law Reform training. She also wrote NAWL's brief on divorce law reform, focusing on the importance of protecting women and children in situations of domestic violence. The brief was endorsed by over 30 groups across Canada.

Anastasia Berwald was also involved in launching the Le Droit A Besoin du Féminisme Car collective and organizing its first two national forums.
