Dr. Teresa Scassa appeared before the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to discuss employee surveillance

On March 29th 2022, Faculty member Dr. Teresa Scassa appeared before the Standing Committee on Social Policy of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. The Committee was reviewing the government’s proposed Bill 88, An Act to enact the Digital Platform Workers’ Right Act, 2022 and to amend various Acts.


Dr. Scassa offered her comments on the needed reforms regarding employee electronic surveillance. She explained the dangers of exposing employee data with the current legal framework, especially with the adoption of new forms of electronic monitoring pandemic conditions and remote work have spurred. Dr. Scassa recommended additional requirements regarding employee monitoring.

Dr. Teresa Scassa is the Canada Research Chair in Information Law and Policy, a Faculty member at the Centre for Law, Technology and Society, and a Full Professor in the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section of the University of Ottawa.
